How To Learn The Java Programming Language. Step-By-Step, A Complete Video Tutorial Series From Part 1 To 87

Java

high-level programming language developed by  James Gosling at Sun Microsystems. Java was originally called OAK, and was designed for handheld devices and set-top boxes. Oak was unsuccessful so in 1995 Sun changed the name to Java and modified the language to take advantage of the burgeoning World Wide Web.

Java is an object-oriented language similar to C++, but simplified to eliminate language features that cause common programming errors. Java source code files (files with a .java extension) are compiled into a format calledbytecode (files with a .class extension), which can then be executed by a Javainterpreter. Compiled Java code can run on most computers because Java interpreters and runtime environments, known as Java Virtual Machines (VMs), exist for most operating systems, including UNIX, the Macintosh OS, and Windows. Bytecode can also be converted directly into machine languageinstructions by a just-in-time compiler (JIT).

Java is a general purpose programming language with a number of features that make the language well suited for use on the World Wide Web. Small Java applications are called Java applets and can be downloaded from a Web server and run on your computer by a Java-compatible Web browser, such asNetscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Google‘s Shut Down Its Google Video Service : Download Your Videos by May 13 or They’re Gone Forever

Google

Source:  mashable.com By Charlie White

Google‘s decided to shut down its Google Video service, and in an email sent Friday night (4/15/2011), reminded those who’ve uploaded videos to the site that they have until May 13 to download them before they are removed.

Google says that on April 29, Google Videos will no longer be viewable on the site, and the download function will still be available for a couple of weeks to allow users to retrieve their work. Perhaps many of those users will move their video clips to Google’s other video service, YouTube, which Google acquired in 2006.

We’re surprised Google has taken so long to shut down Google Video, given that the company is finally figuring out how to make YouTube profitable, is also allowing video uploads to its Picasa service, and stopped accepting uploads to Google Video almost 2 years ago, in May, 2009.

In addition, wouldn’t it be a good business move for Google to make it easy for Google Video users to transfer their video clips to a YouTube account? Commenters, do you think Google is leaving its users hanging with this move?

Here’s the email sent to Google Video users:

From: “Google Video”
Date: Apr 15, 2011 9:56 PM
Subject: Google Video Hosted Content To Be Removed After May 13

Dear Google Video User,

Later this month, hosted video content on Google Video will no longer be available for playback. Google Video stopped taking uploads in May 2009 and now we’re removing the remaining hosted content. We’ve always maintained that the strength of Google Video is its ability to let people search videos from across the web, regardless of where those videos are hosted. And this move will enable us to focus on developing these technologies further to the benefit of searchers worldwide.

On April 29, 2011, videos that have been uploaded to Google Video will no longer be available for playback. We’ve added a Download button to the video status page, so you can download any video content you want to save. If you don’t want to download your content, you don’t need to do anything. (The Download feature will be disabled after May 13, 2011.)

We encourage you to move to your content to YouTube if you haven’t done so already. YouTube offers many video hosting options including the ability to share your videos privately or in an unlisted manner. To learn more go here.

How To Disassemble A Nokia N8: A Step By Guides

N8

Source: formymobile.co.uk

It’s probably best NEVER to disassemble your own Nokia as it will void your warranty. Worse, you could break something.

Having said that, the Nokia N8′s battery requires some minor disassembly to change it (you’ll only need to do things a few years into N8′s life if/when battery wears out. It’s your standard BL-4D). Avert your eyes if you do not wish to see the N8 dissected.

Tools required: Torx 4 screwdriver, torx 5 screwdriver, torx 6 screwdriver (not required for removal of the screen) plastic tool such as a guitar plectrum or credit card, hot air gun or hairdryer.

  • First remove the torx 4 screws on either side of the phone.

Nokia N8 disassembly stage 1

  • You can now pull the bottom cover off, as shown below.

Nokia N8 disassembly stage 2

  • Turn the phone over and lift the black plastic battery lid from the point shown.

Nokia N8 disassembly stage 3

  • With the battery lid removed your phone should look like below. Remove the battery by pulling the blue plastic tab, indicated by the arrow below, that's sticking out of the end of the phone.

How To Backup and Resurrect a Dead or Dying System Disk With Clonezilla

Clonzilla

Source: How-To-Geek

Clonezilla to clone an exact copy of your OS system disk, regardless if you use Windows, Mac OS, or Linux!

In the event of tragic hardware failure, a backup image or completely cloned disk can save you from loads of worry, and get you back on your feet effortlessly. Get in the spirit of the day—keep reading to see how to resurrect that machine with bootable copy of your OS.

What You’ll Need to Clone Your Disk

DSC_0001 A copy of Clonezilla Live CD or a CD-R to burn it on. If you find CD-Rs old fashioned, you can also put the Live Environment on a USB flash drive.
You can go directly and download Clonezillanow, or jump ahead to the directions for which version to download and burn.
If you’ve ever heard of Norton Ghost, Clonezilla is an excellent, feature rich alternative available for free download. Clonezilla can copy data, partitions, bootloaders, and system information—creating a copy so accurate your computer won’t know the cloned disk from the original.
DSC_0013 A spare internal hard disk to clone your existing system disk on. One of Clonezilla’s listed “Limitations” is that the target disk must be equal size or larger than the source, so make sure that the drive (or partition) you’re cloning is smaller than the drive you’re cloning it to.
Make sure your spare disk is one you can install in your computer before cloning, or you’ll find yourself cloning it again and again, which can be time consuming.
Don’t bother formatting the drive, either, as Clonezilla will retain the formats and partitions of any drive you clone.
DSC_0041 An external USB hard drive enclosure to use to write your disk clone to. You can work from one internally installed drive to another, but this involves a lot opening up your machine and installing a second drive, when a USB enclosure does it in seconds.
(Author’s note: USB HDD enclosures have saved me from more that one mishap, including one with a drive that only started up one time out of twenty. The enclosure made it much easier to restart, restart, restart and then clone the disk. I would recommend every geek own one!)

In addition to this, you’ll need a working PC capable of booting from your optical (DVD & CD) drive, and your system disk will have to be capable of running at least long enough to clone your data. It is possible to clone disks with bad sectors or problems starting up—but healthy disks are the best ones to work with and clone, so ensure you have a backup before it is too late.

Download Clonezilla Live

sshot-466

Clonezilla.org is the home to the Clonezilla project, where you can learn a bit about it, or simply download it. For most HTG readers, you can expect to use a x86 Live CD to clone, image, or restore your system disk. This will work with all Intel Macs, and likely any machine running Windows, and many distros of Linux.

How To Design a Multimedia Website Layout in Photoshop

Greymanfinal
Source: psd.tutplus.com By Carine Ma

Tutorial Details

  • Program: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator CS3+
  • Difficulty: Intermediate
  • Estimated Completion Time: 2+ Hours

First impressions do count! Stunning our viewers with a visually compelling portfolio is one of the most important things that a designer can do to court a new client. Today we will demonstrate how to use photos, brushes, and textures, and 3D objects to design a creative multimedia website layout in Photoshop. Let’s get started!

Resources

The following resources were used in the production of this tutorial:

Step 1

Create a 960px by 620px canvas in Photoshop. This is a good resolution for websites as most screens can accommodate it.

Press Cmd + R to add the ruler and draw some guides to mark the limits for the main content area. These will be useful to center your design.

Step 2

Now that the main content area is properly delimited, let’s resize the canvas to 1224px by 620px (Image > Canvas Size) to create a bigger background. This spill-over area will be useful for visitors with large screens and create a ‘borderless’ look.

Step 3

The last step in preparing our document is to add a guide in the center. This guide will be handy when you have to center the design elements. A quick way to find the center is to create a new layer and press the Cmd + T shortcut keys to activate "Free Transform".
